Congratulations to Joe (FEP Username:
tORMENtOR) and his 1984 Mustang GT Turbo. Joe wanted to tell the story of his GT Turbo in his own words. So here they are for all to enjoy.
I had first seen this 84 GT Turbo back in 2009 when it turned up for sale here on FEP. My thoughts were it was a perfect match to my 84GT T-top being almost the opposite but yet similar in its characteristics. As it turned out timing was off for me, with a stable already full of Stangs I needed to sell one off first and it turned out I missed out on the car and it was traded for a S10. I figured the car would turn up again somewhere but from 2010-16 it never turned up anywhere and I only knew it was in the Southeast somewhere. Weekly searches on Cragislist and mustang forums always came up empty & no luck from the previous owner. I even kept a picture of the car on my phone when friends would ask if I was going to buy another car I would show them the pic of the GT Turbo. Well as luck would have it in June of 2016 Homer302 posted pictures from a car show in Greensboro NC and there was the GT Turbo, finally I knew it's whereabouts. I found out from Homer302 the car was also for sale, now in a panic I had to get so I put a wanted ad on Craigslist in Greensboro and within 5 days the owner contacted me and a deal was made. The car was in practically the same shape it was in 2009. It must have been fate because my good friend Rob(83GTRAG) was heading to North Carolina that Friday so we headed down to pick it up. My search was now over and I finally have the perfect stable mate 84GT's. Since owning the car I revived the original paint, swapped a 84.5 front bumper cover and many other maintenance and upgrade performance parts. Future plans call for some vintage Recaro seats & some more drvetrain upgrades. I plan on having the GT Turbo at all the big Ford & Mustang shows in Pennsylvania this 2017 season.
Joe's Mustang has 108k miles with original 1E Silver paint. The original front cover was swapped out for an 84.5 GT front cover with fog lights. Joe also add a Cowl Concepts Gauge Pod with Autometer, Boost,Oil,Water Temp Gauges. The 2.3L runs a -Bo-Port 1.5 Cam, Stinger Front Mount Intercooler, 36lb injectors, Megasquirt ECU, Bob Log Header 3inch exhaust, and all this power is held in place by a set of ChuckW motor mounts. The T-5 transmission utilizes a Spec Stage 2 clutch and pressure plate, and gears are changed via MGW shifter. The 7.5 rear end was swapped for an 8.8 with 3.55 gears.
The stock suspension has been upgraded with the full Maximum Motorsports Grip Package. To handle the extra cornering speeds a set of Cobra brakes have been installed. The brakes are accented by a set of 17x8 Bullet wheels with Kumho XS tires. The interior upgrades include an 86 GT steering wheel, a set of custom GT Turbo floor mats, a Cobra shifter knob, and an SVO speedometer.
Congratulations once again to Joe and his 1984 Mustang GT Turbo as the Ride of the Month!
