Have everything off the motor to pull it out next weekend for complete overhaul. Spending some money but it’s going to be awesome!

Thanks dude! This was pretty high up on my wish-list. I'm glad I waited for something proper and didn't jump into the Mach-1 piece. The SEM paint you recommended is definitely the magic touch.

Removed my driveshaft and T5 to get ready for engine pull next weekend. Took me and my neighbour literally 3 minutes to remove it from the car once all the interior and cables were disconnected. That was doing it on cribbing with one floor jack. Piece of cake.

Picked up the 83 from the winter slumber yesterday and put 100 miles on. I filled the tank today and was happy to see I avg. 19 mpg this last tank. That’s with the 1906 on it.
Not much else really other than getting old and boy if you got your health you better appreciate it. I’ve had 2 herniated disc’s in my neck in 6 months time and need 3 vertebrae fused now. Between the pain and dealing with the B.S. dr.s any enjoyment has taken a back seat.

Man, sorry to hear that and I read ya loud and clear on the health stuff. I really think that was the major factor in my decision to do all the mods and upgrades to my car and get it done. You just never know when that crap is going to hit you when your middle age. Lost most of the vision in my left eye all of a sudden about a little over a month ago. Ended up getting ocular neuritis and have been on a nasty high dose of steroids that have been kicking my butt. Ct scans, neurological appointments, mri’s to see what's going on. Still don’t know, but the less they find before the mri is leading down to having MS. I’m 49. So get out there and enjoy what you got and while you can cause you never know.

I don’t think I ever mentioned it before but I’m almost completely blind. I had a stroke and Brain hemorrhage about 10 years ago. And only have the inner half of my left eye that works still.I quit driving for 7 years and basically gave in to the dr.s every whim. It ended up costing me 5 1/2 years of unimaginable headaches and sweats leading up to a point where they wanted to cut intestines out. Dr. Walked out mid app. Cause I was in full pain that time begging for help. That was the final straw, stopped going stopped the antidepressants (prescribed for pain)and headaches started going away. Lesson being dr.s don’t care or know any better than you do but sounds to me like you had a stroke possibly damage to the ocular nerve. It really pays to google symptoms and whatnot. Sorry for the rant but today’s health care is poop.

Several neighborhood streets here were re asphalted Saturday. Nice day 70F.
Dust and pebbles all over the car, truck, drive from the old surface grinding.
Had to power wash everything good. Lucky no damage. Would have moved vehicles to a safer spot.
No advance warning the work was going to be done. Not the workers fault. Blame a#***e management.
Cop came and told them to stop at 1030p 1.5 loads away from finish.
First 8' lane machine broke down around 4p. Something locked up on it no restart.
2nd machine was 10'- too wide for a clean center seam-working in the dark too.
Machine 1 was a high hour machine had LEDs for night work. Laid mix nice and even.
#2 had no work lights. Both were Cats.

Why do companies push workers so hard? 6a -11p shift is bs. Not safe either.
Plus the asphalt was not as warm as earlier in day- At night, fresh laid mix read 100-120F.
I checked it with IR. Supposed to be much hotter. Is rough even after rolling.

Cleaned all the glass squeaky clean. Mirrors too. Fast no streaking, no microfiber wipe needed.
Spritzed one end of an old towel with water, Glass Plus, drop of Dawn.
Needed some rubbing pressure bit more than normal to normally clean glass.
Worked on the paint and plastic too.
Was sun baked tar grit and dust from recent street repave operations.
Did not want to do the razor blade bit on the new windshield.
A plastic ice scraper did not do anything.
The mix of Glass Plus and Dawn created a thin white sud easy to see, dried fast.

Pulled the engine, transported 2 hours and tore it apart all in 4 hours. Block is off to the machine shop this week to get hot tanked, inspected, honed and decked.

Well, I figured to do some maintenance by changing my antifreeze.
    Turned into a nightmare.
I removed the lower hose to completely drain the system.
I removed the by pass hose to shoot water into the engine to further flush it as well.
Well, the bypass hose I “thought “ I had in stock, turned out to not be the 5/8-3/4 inch one.
It was 3/4” both sides…. Hmmm, where that??.. brain fart.
Off to the Auto parts store….$28… are kidding me?
    I offered $5, as that’s all it was worth… they didn’t agree with me…
So needless to I left poorer and went home and proceeded to spend 1/2 hour trying to get that dam thing on with the hose clamps loosely on.
Get that done, fill her up, start her up add coolant as needed…all good…. Not,
The Damed engine wouldn’t warm up. The Factory gauge wouldn’t even reach the “N” , and my AutoMeter Gauge read 150 degrees.
Yes, the Damed thermostat went…a now $28 Mr Gasket 180 degrees thermostat had passed away.
So, back to the auto parts store for a cheap Carquest 180…$12.
So got her to together, only this time I kept the by pass hose on the housing… much easier to install.

Moral of the story; don’t fix what is isn’t broke!

    Thanks qikgts!

Today - Found a good shop/mechanic from word of mouth recommendation and I made an appointment to have my drum brakes done as well as a new pinion seal in a couple weeks. Ordered all the parts. Maybe I'll have him install my headers while they're at it.....hmm........would be nice to have it all done in one visit. I've had enough fun turning wrenches for now and will let a professional take care of the rest of my list of chores.

I find turning wrenches therapeutic (and fun). It's a good day when I can spend a couple/few hours working on a project with some music going and a beverage or two and everyone leaving me alone.

I couldn’t agree with you more Chuck. I’m just looking to use my “get out of jail free” card this time around. Drums suck and I don’t want to play with the pinion at the start of prime cruising season. I’ll likely save the headers for myself in the offseason since those are more of a “fun” piece and gives me something to look forward to.

I finally got around to removing the bumperettes from my front bumper. No more smashing knees on them working on the car. Need to replace door hinge drivers side.

Well, I was going to drive the TBird to work this morning, however the starter had other ideas.

It had been acting up, but decided to fully leave the chat today.

Spliced in a PL switch in the driver's door as there was none when I bought the car. Picked up a door wiring harness off eBay and cut the switch housing off and spliced that in. Works like a charm and is much nicer to see a switch there than just a bezel and a hole!

Replaced the PW guide brackets and bushings in the driver's door. Getting the guide rod in and out of the door was a hassle and it didn't come without a lot of sweat and a few scrapes on the window. Oh well, lesson learned. Things aren't always as easy as they look on the LMR how-to videos!

Flushed the PS system. Replaced the PS pump, bracket, pulley, and 2 hoses. Nice to see actual clear red fluid in the pump instead of the hazy nonsense that was in there. Also nice to not have the fluid leaking out of the pump!

Was taking the car to a local tranny shop to get the clutch/tranny looked at since it's definitely slipping. When I bought the car, the owner said the clutch was new in July of 2021 and the tranny was also rebuilt at that time. I bought it at the end of May 2023. So hoping it's only the clutch that needs adjusting. I don't have issues getting it into any gear, it just seems like it takes forever for the clutch to fully engage. Same thing happens when I jump on it.

Anyway, on the way there I noticed the PS was not really working well. Steering was a bit labored. As I was only a few miles from the shop, I didn't really care. Figured that I might not have enough fluid in or something stupid like that. Nope, about 1.5 miles from the shop steam started spewing out from under the hood. Pulled the car over, popped the hood, and found that the belt was gone! Well, that sucked. I immediately thought that somehow I didn't have the new pulley properly aligned when I installed it and that's what caused the belt to snap. Within 30 minutes, the flatbed was there and the 4-eye was hauled the last 1.5-2 miles to the shop. Heard from the mechanic yesterday and he said the alternator seized, which most-likely caused the belt to snap. He said he'll check the pulley alignment when he puts on the new alternator and belt, but said that it looked to be good. So now I wait until the alternator comes in and he starts putting things back together. I drove the car probably 3 - 5 miles without the belt before the car overheated, based on when the steering started to misbehave. I surely hope I didn't do any internal engine damage! Never thought the belt was snapped or I'd have pulled right over. Oh well, here's hoping...
