Chris's (REDLORDAMAZON) 1986 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

 Written by Chris

I purchased this car for my wife in May of 2009 from the original owners son who inherited the car when she passed away.  He felt it was a girls car and had no interest in keeping it. The car was listed on Craigslist and looked familiar to me. I looked at a copy of Hemming's that was a couple of months old and sure enough it was the same car. I called the owner in California we made a deal and had it shipped to New York.

The car came fully documented and was as close to original as original could be.  It is a 70,000 mile original California car .A envelope full of paper work was in the car upon its arrival. In the envelope was all the service records, smog receipts, and the paper work from the purchase of the car even the original check that was made out to the dealer for the deposit on the car. The owner left a note for me to take care of it Chris.

My original intentions for the car was to buff it out and do some touch ups.  Upon arrival of the car I was a little disappointed in the condition of the body. My friend Mike ( Mike's Auto Works ) saw my face and said do not worry we will paint it. Thanks Mike. The car wore its original paint and was never hit or repaired it was sun faded and had some dings. The car has been treated to a new paint job done by my friend Mike with me helping, as well as NOS emblems and decals. I ordered new seat covers in leather (TMI) and installed them myself. I had a new top, cables and pads installed as well. I also went through the car mechanically. I installed new brakes, water pump, hoses thermostat,  re-cored radiator, a complete tune up all filters the belt and changed all the fluids. There are also other miscellaneous items that have been replaced as well.

The Good and bad is Joanies car jumped the line in front of my black convertible. It was next to get a repaint, but I wanted to get this car done so my wife could enjoy it.  The Enkei wheels that are on the car where meant for my black car as well but my friend Mike and I both decided they would make the car which they do.

I never meant to complete the car to the level it is but one thing led to another. Most people who know me say that it is just my nature I guess I should have expected it. It is a great compliment to have been nominated for foureyedride of the month as well as winning. My son Erik is so psyched about the car winning.

Once again Thanks,
Chris
