  • Congratulations this month goes to Marshall Corrie (FEP UsernameCONMECH) and his 1984˝ 20th Anniversary Edition 2.3 Turbo Hatchback (1 of 362) as the Ride of the Month. Marshall was originally introduced to the Mustang in June of 2014 when Mike Malone (at6svo) wanted to advertise the car for sale. Mike began doing some research on the Mustang after finding out about it’s “1 of 362” factor Marshall decided he had to have it. A few weeks later a deal was struck and the Anniversary edition was his.

The 1984˝ Mustang is a rare car, but that didn’t stop Marshall from making some modifications to it as he brought the car back to life. The GT350 is @ 75% stock, but Marshall felt a minor “resto-mod” with period correct parts was in order to fully enjoy the Mustang. The 2.3 Turbo was upgraded using some OEM Ford parts from the Mustang SVO, which included a SVO intercooler and 1986 E6 exhaust manifold. The exhaust was further upgraded with a 3” down pipe Magnaflow catalytic converter and muffler that ultimately terminated into a set of LX polished stainless steel tail pipes. The fuel system received a set of 42lb injectors to feed the turbo power and a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe serpentine accessory drive setup was added to clean up the front of the engine.

Once the drivetrain and engine were all sorted out, Marshall turned his attention to the suspension upgrades. These included a set of Eibach Sport line springs with urethane spring isolators and KYB GR2 struts/shocks at all four corners. The suspension was further upgraded by a set of urethane sway bar end links and a full 1987-93 V8 front brake upgrade with braided steel lines. Ford did such a great job with the 20th Anniversary Edition exterior that Marshall felt there was little room for improvement. A set of rear window louvers were added to protect the hatch area from the California sun. The stock TRX wheels were swapped for a set of Boyd Coddington Stars (16 x 7) due to the original TRX tires becoming so expensive and hard to obtain. Once LMR released the new 16” TRX replica wheels they took over eye candy duty on the Mustang.

Marshall has been able to take the Mustang to a few shows in California that include the JBA Ford Festival 2015, which celebrated the Art of the Mustang book release. The GT350 was awarded the BEST FOX BODY OVERALL award of the show. The 1984˝ Mustang was featured in the hard back edition of ‘Art of the Mustang’ by Donald Farr.

One of the most challenging aspects for Marshall with the GT350 was getting the car registered in California. Anyone living in California understands all the trials and tribulations required when dealing with the DMV and a vehicle that has been non-operational for a few years. This was all due to the familiar story about a Fox body that almost met it’s demise like so many others. The original 2.3 Turbo had been removed by a previous owner to make way for a 5.0 V8 so the Mustang could be flogged down the strip at Barona’s 1/8 mile track. Luckily Mike Malone (at6svo) was able to rescue the car from that fate, and ultimately sold the car to Marshall to bring back to life. Marshall wanted to send out a very heart felt ‘Thank You!’ to Mike for all of the work he put into this gem and for giving him the opportunity of owning such an awesome little piece of Mustang history. A very special thank you to Chad (chads84svo) as one of the primary parts suppliers, after Mike. A Thank You to all of the others who pitched in with parts and information, such as Scott Moen (WISMACH1) for the information regarding build number break down.

Motor has ran for maybe 3 or 4 hours. I haven’t really drove it that much. Hasn’t been started since maybe September of last year.

    No oil in filter?

That's bizarre! Since you had good oil pressure, it shouldn't be a faulty oil pump. How long did the motor run with that filter on it? How long did it
